SYLACAUGA, ALABAMA — A 17-year-old Sylacauga High School student is recovering in a hospital after authorities say he was beaten up after a homecoming football game last Friday night.

Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson said a large group of students gathered in the parking lot of the old Ace Hardware around 10 p.m., WBRC reported.

Johnson said one or more black teens assaulted 17-year-old Brian Ogle.

When police arrived, they discovered Ogle bleeding from his head. The teen was eventually airlifted to UAB Hospital where he is in critical condition recovering from head injuries, according to WBRC.

Brandi Allen, the victim’s mother, said her son had his skull cracked open in a few places and is bleeding from his brain.

Police say witnesses said the attack may have stemmed from an argument at the school last week over pro-police comments Ogle posted on his Facebook page.

Johnson says there may have been a verbal exchange or a social media post about the “Black Lives Matter” movement, which might have sparked the attack, WBRC reported.

Authorities have identified and interviewed persons of interest, but no motive has been released and no charges have yet been filed, according to the New York Daily News.
