Hydropower plant collapses after being swept by Typhoon Megi-triggered torrents

A hydropower plant in east China's Zhejiang province collapsed Friday after its foundations were eroded and broken by torrents caused by Megi, the 17th typhoon of 2016 that made landfall in neighboring Fujian province on Wednesday morning.

The three-storey building in the province's Wencheng County began to tilt at 07:00 and collapsed at 10:31 when the main pillars broke after being constantly washed by torrents.

No casualties were reported as staff members had been evacuated Thursday. A cordon has been set up around the plant.
