"Two Leaves and a Bud" by Mulk Raj Anand was first published in 1937. Like his earlier novels, this book also tells about the oppression of the poor in British India.

The story is about a farmer who tries to save his daughter from a British soldier. The story is set in the tea plantations of Assam, a state in modern India.
