Heartwarming footage has emerged from the US of a man rescuing a family of stricken raccoons from a dumpster.

The video, filmed in Florida on August 28, shows Karl using a wooden pallet in an attempt to coax the little critters out of the skip.

According to the filmer, it was an extremely hot day and the dumpster was really warm so she and her husband felt they had to rescue the raccoons.

"I guess they got in there at night looking for food and shelter and couldn't get out afterwards," she later wrote online.
