Matthew Centrowitz pulled off a shock victory in the 1,500m final on Saturday, securing his country’s first gold medal in the event since 1908 Centrowitz surprised himself as he took the lead in a leisurely paced race with around two laps remaining. He only got stronger with the finish line in sight “Doing my victory lap, I literally kept screaming to everyone I know ‘Are you kidding me?’” Centrowitz told reporters. "I didn't ever dream of winning."
