Cleanup efforts have begun on the Yellowstone River downstream from where an oil leak was reported over the weekend.
The pipeline break that released an estimated 50,000 gallons of crude oil into the Yellowstone River is beneath the riverbed, a federal official said Tuesday.

The crews are using a traditional boom, which doesn’t work well in the swift water conditions, so it is being backed up by secondary capture point near Crane, which is located between Savage and Sidney about 30 miles away from the spill site.

At least seven more people have been arrested during protests near Cannon Ball.

Tensions rose during the protests last week as construction began on the Dakota Access pipeline in the area.

The pipeline route goes just north of the Standing Rock Reservation and under the Missouri River.

Construction began in the area last Wednesday.

Morton County sheriff’s deputies arrested 11 people that day.

A famous movie star on Thursday joined the largest protest yet to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline from crossing the Missouri River near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

Actress Shailene Woodley, heroine of the Divergent movie series, was among a knot of sweaty runners who returned to the reservation after delivering a petition opposing the pipeline to Washington, D.C.
