LONDON — A 19-year-old man went on a stabbing spree on a busy street in central London Wednesday night.

The Guardian reports that the man had been wielding a knife in a busy area near Russell Square. He started attacking people with his weapon around 10:30 p.m.

A woman in her 60s was stabbed and later died at the scene. Two other women and three men were injured and brought to the hospital.

Responding police took down the attacker with a Taser before arresting him. He is in custody at the hospital.

Authorities say the suspect’s mental health is a significant factor in the investigation, though they are also looking at possible terrorist motivations.

As a result of the knife attack, the city increased the number of patrols and armed officers manning the streets on Thursday.
