A dramatic video released by the New York City Police Department shows a man clinging to the Manhattan Bridge.
According to a statement, "NYPD officers from the 5 Precinct in Lower Manhattan responded early Wednesday morning to a call of an emotionally disturbed person on the Manhattan Bridge. Upon their arrival, officers found a 22-year-old man on the outermost ledge, located on the exterior side of the safety fence."
Subsequently, the personnel from the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) also reached the scene.
The police department notes, "Over the next 30 minutes, ESU officers continued crisis communication with the distraught man."
In parallel, authorities worked on cutting part of the fence to create a hole.
According to the department, "Once the hole was completed, the officers traversed the fence from the top and flanked the individual, bringing him to safety through the fence. The man was uninjured and removed to an area hospital for help and evaluation."
