As Long as I Live – Climax Jazz Band with Dick Cary 1978
At the final tune from a TV broadcast of one of Peter Appleyard’s jazzshows we see the Climax Jazz Band from Toronto together with Dick Cary, who is playing a kind of alto trumpet. I think his instrument was tuned in C where most cornets and trumpets are Bb instruments. Normally I would prefer not to post clips with these disturbing overlays, but that is part of the world of commercialism. Even the tune was cut short of the last 8 bars.
However Dick Cary’s unique performance and there are only so few of these around, preserve a little bit of the jazz history by a musician who played piano in Louis Armstrong’s All Stars in 1946 and 1947. And of course I’m especially proud that I was able to play in this session as well.
Peter Appleyard vibraphone, Bob Erwig cornet, Jim Buchmann clarinet, Geoff Holmes trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Chris Daniels bass and Max Littlejohns drums.
