Mesa of lost women is a B grade movie from the 50's that tells the story of a renound doctor that visits an unorthodox scientist at his secret location in the Mexican desert to learn about his research. After being guided through the desert to the secret lab by a strange woman things become even more bizarre as he learns that Dr Arana (Jackie Cooghan - who played Uncle Fester in the Adams Family) has successfully transplanted the gland responsible for growth from a tarantula spiders to female subjects & vice versa. The dark haired woman winning the staring competition in the clips, name is Tarantella who has the instincts & regenerative abilities of a spider (the spiders grow to gigantic proportions after the transplant as can be seen in the clip! & yes that's a bandage on the Spiders head) Anyhow Dr Aranas long term plan is to rule the world with Super human females & giant spiders (both of which he has learn't to communicate with & control telepathically) After witnessing an experiment & refusing to be part of Aranas dastardly scheme he cannot be allowed to leave & is subdued by Tarantella & held prisoner. The visiting doctor eventually escapes before being tracked down at a bar by Tarantella, who he eventually shoots (though her regenerative spider abilities allow her to survive.)The doctor hijacks a group with a light plane at the bar & seemingly escapes again. Dr Arana is already seemingly on the way to ruling the world, as he has a minion amongst the hijacked group who brings down the plane ( you guessed it , near his desert lab.) His legion of huge spiders & spider women terrorise the group before capturing the survivors & returning them to his secret lab for a dramatic conclusion.
All in all mesa of lost women offers some amusement in the bizarre plot & some of the acting though it gets tedious at times. People who liked the famous Ed Wood cult classic Plan 9 from outer space (touted as the worst movie made) may enjoy this. 5/10.
