Launched in North America last fall as a 2016MY, the second generation BMW X1 has qualified for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick Plus.
The highest award was achieved by the compact crossover after its redesign boosted its performance in the small overlap crash test, where it earned a 'Good' rating, following an intrusion of approximately 4 inches (10 cm) at the lower door hinge pillar and instrument panel.
