As many as one million Americans will be cut off from food stamps over the course of this year starting today. The 20-year-old rulerequires that adults without children or disabilities must have a job to receive food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for more than three months, with exceptions. Many states are bringing back the rule as the economy recovers. As a result, many recipients’ three month limit expires April 1. Currently, about 46 million people receive the help.
