Tandanu Episode 07 | Indian Ocean ft. Vishal Dadlani | Roday

Indian Ocean have been one of India's most prolific bands over the past 2 decades. This year they mark their 25th year with their biggest album yet. Titled Tandanu, the album features 7 new tracks with 7 different collaborators. Each track also has an exclusive "Making Of" video with behind the scenes footage of the band jamming and brainstorming with the artists.

Another song Rahul learnt in the Narmada Valley way back in 1993, from a beautiful young Bhili trible woman named Jimli, in the village of Turkheda in Gujarat. She sings that she's waiting at the side of the road for her sister who's coming in a bus. While working on the song. Amit came up with this beautiful Kashmiri tune, and we thought we should convert the song into a song about displacement. The village of Turkheda has been drowned by a dam, and Kashmiris are similarly Displaced from their home. The band collaborated with Vishal Dadlani on this song and he took this thought and ran with it, saying "I'm a Sindhi, and we Sindhis too Have been displaced from Our land..."
So you have Roday, a song about displacement with lines in five languages (in order of how they appear in the song) : Bhili, Hindi, Sindhi, Persian, Kashmiri.
