Two South Bend Police cars collide

Two South Bend Police officers were injured after their cars collided while responding to a burglary in progress just yards away from the station.

It happened around 9 o'clock Thursday night on the intersection of Sample and Chapin Street in South Bend.

Officials tell us that Patrolman Jason King and Corporal Jason Stone were responding to the call when they collided.

Officer King was trapped in his car for a short time.

St. Joseph County Police say once the two police cars collided, they veered off, striking a sport utility vehicle and a Honda Civic.

They say the driver of the sport utility vehicle was also trapped.

Both officers and the sport utility vehicle driver were taken to the hospital.

Officials tell us none of the injuries are life threatening.

Several police agencies and the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team are investigating.

They say the driver of the Honda Civic may have been drinking and driving.
