Bullet rips through Mississippi cop's eye and lodges in brain during confrontation with armed robber

CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi police officer Corporal Derrick Couch is fighting for his life after being shot at point-blank range while investigating a robbery.
Surveillance footage released by the Clarksdale Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation shows two men entering the Corner Grocery Store in Clarksdale just before 9 p.m. on Saturday.
The masked robbers walk in armed and hold up a female employee at gunpoint, according to WMC Action News 5. They leave the store minutes later, walking out separately and going in different directions.
Headlights appear as a car pulls up and officer Couch is seen walking out. The Associated Press reports that he confronted the two suspects about four blocks from the store, but was promptly shot in the face.
The bullet tore through his eye and lodged in his brain. He is currently hooked up to a ventilator and remains in critical condition.
Both suspects were in custody as of Sunday afternoon. The first one was turned in by his father, while the other was apprehended by police, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
