US military base hit by tornado

Dramatic footage has emerged of a tornado hitting a US military base on Wednesday.

The video, filmed at Fort Stewart in Georgia just before 5pm, shows the twister tearing through the base.

According to local reports, the storm destroyed several vehicles and dozens of people were forced to leave their homes.

The filmer later wrote online: "My power went out and the neighbours were outside.

"I went out and asked what was going on they said a tornado."

"I said 'you're crazy,' then heard the wind so ran out and started filming not even caring about my welfare," he continued.

"A lot of cars damaged and schools and homes."
