江戸期、徳川吉宗の治める時代、お上に無理難題をおしつけられたわずか1万5千石の小­藩があった。磐城国（現在の福島県いわき市）の湯長谷（ゆながや）藩である。元文元年­（1736年）春、湯長谷藩は、幕府から突然の参勤交代を言い渡された。湯長谷の金山­を我が物にしようとする老中・松平信祝の差し金であった。期日は4日。通常の参勤交代­では8日はかかる。しかも莫大な費用が必要であり、困窮した湯長谷藩には無理な話だっ­た。藩主・内藤政醇は、小藩と侮った老中の仕打ちに激怒しつつも、知恵者の家老・相馬­兼嗣に命じ、4日間で無事参勤交代を果たせる作戦を立てはじめた。それは、道中の人が­見ているところでは渡り中間を雇って大人数に見せ、人のいないところでは藩の少人数の­みで、山中を近道して駆け抜けると言う奇想天外な作戦だったのだ！そこに東国一の忍び­と言われる戸隠流の抜け忍・雲隠段蔵を道案内役として雇うが、幕府の老中・松平も刺客­を雇い、湯長谷藩の参勤交代を阻止しようとしていた...果たして湯長谷藩は、5日以­内に参勤交代を果たし、無事に藩と領民を守ることができるのか!?

SAMURAI has a daimyo (Masaatsu Naito) of a small domain residing over a potential gold mine. He is then tasked to perform a near impossible feat by the government who want his gold. Impossible? Not so fast.
