The shocking moment an animal sanctuary worker punches a tiger in the face

KANCHANABURI, THAILAND — Many visitors to Thailand are unaware of how some of the country's attractions treat the animals they pay to see and the abuse that goes on behind the scenes.

However, a woman who visited Kanchanaburi's Tiger Temple saw a "sanctuary" worker punching one of the cats and caught it on video. The clip has been viewed more than 6 million times since it was posted to Facebook earlier this month.

The video captures the scene as a tiger seems reluctant to move or follow the worker's orders. The man then man roughly turns the animal over and punches it straight in the face.

The Tiger Temple was quick to respond to the viral Facebook post, saying that this type of incident is an "infrequent occurrence" and wasn't behavior that they condoned. They also thanked the tourist for bringing it to their attention.

However, it's pretty clear in the video that none of the workers seemed at all upset when the tiger was punched. In the Facebook post, the woman also mentioned how she saw several tigers dragged by their tails — suggesting that this one worker is not the sanctuary's only bad apple.

Another video that went viral this past month shows a resort worker in Thailand appearing to threaten a baby elephant. This time though, the owner of the resort actually defended his employee, saying he was only "ensuring the safety of tourists."
