Catastrophe! Cop shoots man's lost cat dead in cold-blooded kitty execution

NORTH CATASAUQUA, PENNSYLVANIA — It wasn't curiosity that killed the cat. In this case, it was a police officer.

Animal lover Tom Newhart is demanding police take action after his missing kitty was killed by a cop called to rescue the feline.

Sugar the cat escaped from Newhart's North Catasauqua home earlier this month and was discovered by neighbour Mike Leinert in his yard just hours later, WFMZ reported.

Leinert told WFMZ that Sugar looked injured, so he called police for help.

But a catastrophe unfolded when the police officer who arrived at the scene made no attempt to rescue the cat — and instead shot him dead.

Sugar was not aggressive, aside from some hissing when he was prodded, Leinert told WFMZ. Meanwhile, an inspection of Sugar's body showed no blood or cuts, other than a neck wound, Newhart added.

An upset Newhart is now calling for the cat-killer police officer to be fired and the chief of police to step down.
