gamla stan

This video was my thesis project for my MA in Dance and Related Studies (Film, Theatre and History) degree earned in 2005 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The footage was shot in Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro and in the Gamla Stan neighborhood of Stockholm. I traveled to Stockholm at the invitation of the late American choreographer/filmmaker/director Donya Feuer who allowed me to observe her work on Shakespeare writings with Swedish children . In this videoscape, I explore the tensions between movement and stillness. Like Chris Marker's La Jetee, just one frame in the movie actually moves. The narrative is inspired by a real loss. The ability to archive that loss through actual memory and technology permits across time healing. To learn more about my work, visit www.sharonygreen.com.
