Saturn's Moon Sits Still Against The Dark Of Space In NASA Image
  • 8 years ago
An image taken by the Cassini Spacecraft shows Saturn's moon Tethys taking on a crescent shape while overwhelmed by the ringed planet.

A small moon of Saturn strikes a graceful crescent pose against the dark black of deep space.
The moon, Tethys, sits almost wistful against the overwhelming bulk of Saturn and its rings that nearly cut the greater image in half.
Saturn itself is viewed here from its night side, according to NASA.
The reflected light from its famous rings feebly lighting up only part of the planet’s northern hemisphere.
Seeing Tethys take on such a shape is said to be impossible from Earth, where Saturn's moons typically appear as disks of light.
