“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker color” – Wednesday Addams. I often find myself responding with those infamous words when asked, “Why do you have to wear so much black?” Although we are in an advanced era with an ever-changing fashion industry, many still tend see all black clothing as symbolizing darkness or grunge. Yes, it can represent the “dark side” and certain sub-cultures, but it also signifies power, strength, independence, edginess, mystery, and other positives for the wearer. In the wise words of Neiman Marcus, “women who wear black live colorful lives”, and I couldn’t agree more, (Hello! Coco Chanel and American Vogue’s creative director Grace Corrington are immaculate examples of this.) It is also a great go-to staple when you want to look slimmer, sophisticated, or channel your inner Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. - Njeri
