Mali’s president declares state of emergency after deadly hotel attack

Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has ordered a 10-day state of emergency and three days of national mourning in the wake of an attack on a luxury hotel , as Malian officials revised the total number people who had died from 20 to 21, including 18 hotel guests or visitors.
The officials said seven people had been wounded, including several police officers. They also said a total of 133 people had been safely evacuated from the hotel, 128 of whom were guests or visitors. They said they did not have a confirmed final list of names and nationalities, but would release that after finishing their investigation.
After President Keita announced the state of emergency in Bamako Saturday morning, he visited the Radisson Blu Hotel, accompanied by several top officials and surrounded by armed bodyguards, as armored trucks carrying Malian army troops circled the block.
