Paris attackers may have used PlayStation 4 to plan communicate via gaming system

PARIS — The gaming console PlayStation 4 a tool to help plan terrorist attacks? Well, it could be.

According to Geek.com, the PS4 is in fact "one of the safer options" for under-the-radar terrorist communication. Its voice-over-IP protocol is difficult to monitor compared to mobile phones and computer applications like Skype.

PS4 users can send messages, use voice chat, but also privately communicate with each other through a specific game without even speaking or typing a word.

According to Forbes, a player could for example share an attack plan in Super Mario Maker's coins or, in another video game like Call Of Duty, he could bullet holes to spray out a disappearing message on a wall to another player.

And the logic works not only for PlayStation, but also for other games and consoles using the same technology, such as the Xbox, which has lately been selling better than the PS4.

But despite a PS4 was seized in Paris by police, its use in connection with the terrorist attacks has yet to be determined.

Whether one was used to help plan the murders in Paris, or not, gaming systems remain a headache for counter-terror authorities who would like to know what people are saying in private.
