Boy escapes kidnapping by copying what he saw in the movies

DEYANG, CHINA — A teenage boy who was kidnapped on his way to school in China's Sichuan province on September 24 was able to escape using tactics he learned by watching crime movies, the People's Daily Online reported.

The 13-year-old was thrown in the back of a van and then was bound and gagged in an abandoned building located in a remote village.

Elite Readers reported that the kidnapper called his parents and had the teen tell them that he had been kidnapped and to not contact the police, before demanding the equivalent of around $20,462 in ransom money.

When he thought his captor had left, the boy untied himself and tried to flee, but the kidnapper was just outside of the building and caught him. The teen was tied up tighter, but when the kidnapper had left a second time, the boy shouted to see if he was still there, and then fled the abandoned building while still tied up.

The boy made it to a nearby residential area, where he was rescued by residents who called the police. The kidnapper was arrested at a cybercafe later that day.
