The uncontrollable forest fires of 1988 burned a huge portion of Yellowstone National Park. Large populations of wildlife were displaced and otherwise effected by the flames.
Award winning wildlife cameraman and film producer Bill Grunkemeyer has filmed elk for over a decade in Yellowstone National Park. During the forest fires much of his favorite area for filming elk was burned.
This video is the first to show in detail the same areas before and after the fires. In this beautifully filmed tape we see the effect of the fires on the behavior of the Yellowstone elk. See before and after views of the habitat of these magnificent animals.
Experience the late arrival of the elk calves the spring following the fire, an event that skill has biologists scratching their heads.
Meet some of the characters: "Half and Half," the wallowing bull, and "King," the undisputed ruler of Bull Elk Park. Experience along with the photographer the bugling and frenzy of the first rutting season after the fires.
The whole family will watch this video time and time again enjoying the wonderful sights and sounds of Yellowstone's elk and their unique environment.
