Tourist In Brazil Fatally Shot After GPS App Leads Her To Wrong Neighborhood

A vacationing couple using the GPS app Waze was unwittingly routed to a dangerous neighborhood in Brazil where the woman was fatally shot.

In recent years, heavy police presence in many of Brazil's favelas or slums has brought the crime rate down but some still remain dangerous for tourists. Regina and Francisco Murmura, a vacationing couple, unwittingly ended up in one after the GPS app Waze, routed them there. 
Upon arriving, their car became the target of gunfire, and 70-year-old Regina was shot. Though her husband was able to get her to a hospital, the woman did not survive. 
She and her husband had intended to go to a popular seaside avenue in nearby Niteroi.
The app gave them directions to an almost identically named street in another neighborhood, which is in the midst of a gang-controlled favela.
