Lenny Founder Apologizes for Comparing Gawker to Abusive Husband
  • 9 years ago
Lena Dunham is backtracking after comparing reading negative articles about herself online to domestic violence.
The Girls star/creator explained that she doesn't run her own Twitter account after being body-shamed and discussed the media gossip site Gawker and feminist blog Jezebel, which Dunham slammed in February for offering $10,000 for un-retouched photos from her Vogue shoot and then publishing the images.
Late Tuesday night, Dunham issued an apology on Instagram.
"In a recent interview I compared reading certain websites that have repeatedly insulted me to returning to a physically abusive husband again and again.
When I heard my own quote I was like 'Jesus, Lena, no,' " she wrote.
"I wasn't making a joke about domestic violence-I was over emphatic in my attempt to capture how damaging the Internet can be (not just to celebrities.)"
