The Islamic State’s destruction of one of Syria’s most important archaeological treasures, the Baalshamin Temple in the ancient city of Palmyra, has been met with widespread condemnation in Syria and other parts of the world. UNESCO has called the destruction of the temple a war crime. The Director General of Antiquities and Museums called the act of destruction an attack on civilization. Reports of the site’s destruction come just days after the Islamic State killed Palmyra expert Khaled Asaad. Hazem Abdullah reports from Damascus for teleSUR
