Arul on Hindraf: Track record has to be seen not in the last few months

Semenyih, April 26, 2013: Representatives from 23 ethnic Indian NGOs today affirmed their support for PSM candidate S Arutchelvan for the Selangor state seat of Semenyih.

The NGOs were local and national bodies.

Arutchelvan is facing candidates from Barisan Nasional and PKR this time round, although he had stood under the PKR banner at the 2008 general election in an election pact.

In 2008, he lost to Umno's Johan Abdul Aziz by a mere one thousand one hundred and forty votes.

This time round however, PKR is insistent that Arutchelvan make way for their candidate, forcing him to contest independently of so-called friendly PKR.

The Semenyih constituency has forty two thousand, four hundred and twenty eligible voters, seventeen percent are Indians.

We asked Arutchelvan and the representatives if they think Hindraf which is now putting its weight behind Barisan Nasional, will pull votes away from PSM.
