If fuel economy over long distance is of paramount importance, diesel continues to be a fantastic option for fuel. The Japanese automaker Honda is the latest to show by earning Guinness World Record for lowest consumption in a vehicle across 24 nations of Europe.
That’s right…the Honda Civic Tourer powered by a diesel i-DTEC 1.6 liter engine managed the equivalent of 83.5 mpg over 8387 miles. Wow…that’s impressive, no?
Honda’s European Research And Development Team Members – Julian Warren and Fergal McGrath undertook the 25-day journey.
They started on 1st June from Belgium and returned on June 25th driving approximately 7.5 hours every day. This is one of the most impressive results of Civic so far, and the team has been qualified for Guinness World Record. Nice!
The fuel efficiency was certified through several redundant pieces of evidence such as pictures, video, GPS and logbook. Warren and McGrath credited the success to smooth driving and good route planning.
