Business Travel Safety: Tip 8 - Global focus, local threats
Tip number 8 is about global focus and local threat. The global international travel is invariably the more dominant focal area or the most likely outcome for most multinationals, in which it should still be contextual in its local information and education. Whether or not the organization is traveling, or whatever the volume of travel to associated locations, it is important to localize and contextualize the information and risk categorization of business travel. This is particularly acute for organizations who are making long distance assessments.
So if from a focal point in Australia, The United States, The United Kingdom, Europe, or Africa, and you are travelling to another continental destination of thousands of kilometers away, then predictive analysis becomes questionable without accurate and sustained information to make such evaluations. Essentially irrespective of where the decision maker is located, the origin of travel that the destination locations and physical location of which individuals are traveling, is adequately supported with education, awareness, resources, monitoring, surveillance and so on.
It’s insufficient to say we have a global coverage when in fact the information contained in other report or analysis of the identification of threats only have sufficient granular data to be relevant for local organizations. It’s also important to note that this is difficult, often problematic in utilizing local resources in order to make that evaluation. In locations where the standard of health care, emergency services, utilities or even crimes and health is of lower standard, if that is the society or the environment which we are used to, it is very difficult to extract or distance yourself from those realities of day to day life and apply it to how a traveler may be affected.
