00:01:00You
00:01:02You
00:01:29My name is Ivan Marx
00:01:32The film you're about to see is authentic
00:01:35It records the last 10 years which has changed my life. I
00:01:40Stumbled on something that I could not believe at first
00:01:43But soon realized it had significance on me and everyone around me, which could not be ignored or underestimated
00:01:52The Eskimos called the subject of my story
00:01:55Bushman
00:01:56The Colville Indians of upstate Washington called him Sasquatch
00:02:00The Hoopas of Northern California call him Oma, but right now let's just call him Bigfoot
00:02:30Hmm
00:03:00Oh
00:03:30Oh
00:03:50This is my country
00:03:52I
00:03:58Spent all my life in areas like this as close to the animals as a man can get
00:04:18I built my home here
00:04:21Their ranch, of course, I'm prejudiced, but I think it's just about the prettiest place I've ever seen
00:04:32And there's me
00:04:34She's a rare woman
00:04:37She's the only woman I know who'd put up with the animals. I used to bring home like those coyote pups
00:04:44And raise them just like they were her own
00:04:50I
00:05:04Yeah
00:05:06We've shared more ups and downs than there are in the high Sierra
00:05:11Those were good days simple clear-cut
00:05:15You see I'm a tracker and believe me I'm the last of a vanishing breed I
00:05:23Know tracks like the FBI knows fingerprints. I
00:05:31Specialized in renegades killers of livestock and sometimes people I
00:05:37I didn't kill for sport. I went after the right animal. So innocent ones might be spared. I
00:05:50Learned trapping my dad's shoulders back in, Illinois
00:05:53Since that time I've worked for the government territory sheriff's office federal game warden
00:06:12When they had a renegade they know who to call
00:06:24There was a time me and the dogs got called up all the way to Kodiak, Alaska
00:06:30There've been reports that bear had been killing the cattle now
00:06:33I know there and the Kodiak happens to be one of the most beautiful on God's earth
00:06:41Takes a lot of grub to feed him nine feet tall up to a ton in weight
00:06:47No need for him to be killing cattle though
00:06:50He's as fine a fisherman as you'll ever see
00:07:15The ranchers were getting
00:07:18$5,000 bounties on these so-called cow killers
00:07:23So I moved in to set things straight
00:07:33I
00:07:37Met a rancher who said it ain't Kodiak killing my cattle. I
00:07:43Finally found someone I could talk to
00:07:46He said
00:07:49Bigfoot
00:07:52Straight faced as could be he said Bigfoot's been killing my cat Bigfoot. I
00:08:01Checked a carcass and saw the cow had died naturally the bears just fed on its remains
00:08:09Found out after the grass was waterlogged not enough protein cattle died of malnutrition
00:08:20Kodiak
00:08:22Bigfoot
00:08:23People always want their questions answered in such neatly wrapped little packages
00:08:30Well, I heard about Bigfoot some abominable snowman who'd wandered across the Bering Strait before the ice age
00:08:37I
00:08:39Couldn't believe a grown man would tell me a Bigfoot was killing
00:08:45What a bunch of hogwash
00:08:59I
00:09:01Didn't mind at all putting distance between me and those crazies in Alaska
00:09:06It felt good to be with some sensible folks like Peggy's brother
00:09:12And Arizona University wanted us to track down a javelina hog for research
00:09:18It's a small critter
00:09:19but vicious
00:09:31I
00:09:38Told my brother-in-law about the wild Bigfoot story Kodiak
00:09:43But he didn't respond as I'd expected
00:09:51He said don't be so quick to make judgments there's something I want you to see
00:10:01He
00:10:04Took me to what Indians called the land of petrified wood
00:10:09there
00:10:11Carved in a rock or drawings of a creature with big hands and big feet
00:10:18Exactly as I had heard Bigfoot described
00:10:22the drawings were
00:10:25700 years old
00:10:27They told how creatures the Indians called stickman had come in the night and stolen the Indian children
00:10:35the Indians
00:10:38Abandoned the village in fear
00:10:40First the ranchers now my brother-in-law. My head was reeling with Bigfoot
00:10:51And the stories are just so many words so I soon forgot about him till I was up tracking a mountain lion
00:11:00I
00:11:02Don't know what to do. I don't know where to go. I don't know what to do
00:11:08Till I was up tracking a mountain lion
00:11:10And I found these tracks
00:11:13Now they look much like human footprints, but they were 18 inches long
00:11:19Six and a half across the ball of the foot five and a half at the heel
00:11:25They were the hugest I'd ever seen
00:11:29Tracks were so deep. They had to have been made by at least a 500 pound animal
00:11:38And the hair I couldn't identify it
00:11:43The toe prints were spread around small rocks and dug into the earth
00:11:48Showing whatever made them could cover pretty rugged country and the stride was enormous
00:11:5552 inches in length man's only 30
00:11:59They were fakes
00:12:01Somebody would have had to drag a pretty big machine over pretty rough country to make them and they would have left their own tracks. I
00:12:10Saw where a creature had stumbled
00:12:13It was a handprint
00:12:16But no sign of claws
00:12:20It was so man-like
00:12:24I was mystified so I made plaster casts and sent them with the hair to a lab for analysis
00:12:32I
00:12:35Tell you I was glad to get home
00:12:39Our pups were growing and they didn't give us much time to think about everything that had happened
00:13:01I
00:13:09Was cold to chase a renegade bear up north this time. I wasn't so eager to return to the mountains
00:13:17Tests had shown the hair samples and tracks couldn't be matched with any known animal. I
00:13:25Was uncomfortable
00:13:28The animals were even acting strange I
00:13:38Soon found out why I
00:13:45Found the bear I was looking for but not in the condition I expected
00:13:50Another track just as I'd seen on the mountain
00:14:03There between its teeth the hair
00:14:11Astounded a
00:14:13600 pound bear that it stood eight feet tall
00:14:17Lying by the side of the creek its neck broken
00:14:33Now I wanted to find out everything I could about Bigfoot I
00:14:38advertised for any information or leads
00:14:42You can't believe the number of stories people had to tell
00:14:47My friends laughed at them all. Okay, I'd laugh too
00:14:52But things were different now. I had to figure out what was fact and what was fiction
00:15:01There were reports of creatures 12 feet tall 800 pounds that prowled on two feet
00:15:08Now that's absurd scientifically impossible. No creature that size or weight could even stand upright
00:15:16and as for tracks
00:15:19You can't imagine the number of kids. I found running around the woods making plywood fakes
00:15:25Tales of hunters being ripped apart campers kidnapped and never heard of again
00:15:32But four features all the reports shared
00:15:37Were the dark hair the domed head the large footprints
00:15:46And the glowing red eyes
00:16:02Nature's my home
00:16:04How could some?
00:16:06Missing link be wandering around up here without me knowing it. I
00:16:12Was good to get back in the mountains visit a couple of my pets
00:16:16I
00:16:17Tried not to think about Bigfoot, but it was tough to shake
00:16:24It wasn't two minutes before my friend had vanished in the wood
00:16:37Well, I set out but I couldn't find him any place
00:16:46I
00:17:16I
00:17:21Came to a bridge and there beside it another track Fred
00:17:34Legs were moving before I realized what I was doing. I couldn't believe what I'd seen. I
00:17:43Had to get a closer
00:17:47Look
00:17:59Nauseating musky odor made it difficult to breathe, but I had to find out what I'd seen
00:18:08Getting dark time was growing short
00:18:16I
00:18:32Seen Bigfoot
00:18:34I
00:18:46Was here alone without a rifle without anyone knowing where to find
00:18:57With a 500 pound eight foot tall vicious creature
00:19:04I had to get out of here get some help
00:19:12I had to show people what I'd seen the footprints
00:19:17I
00:19:32Was just the cat
00:19:35I'd never been so scared in my life
00:19:39But my friends couldn't laugh now
00:19:42Wait till they saw the traps
00:19:48I
00:19:59Wash the tracks away
00:20:09Now people's attitudes towards Bigfoot made me mad
00:20:14I
00:20:16Had seen it
00:20:19Matter of fact, I felt I'd been singled out to find it
00:20:36Where do you begin
00:20:39I
00:20:42Jackson Hole, Wyoming a suspicious set of tracks. I
00:20:48Really thought I was on to something over 500 on the side of a mountain
00:20:54The tracks are funny things the smallest print can melt freeze get snowed over
00:21:01And before you know it, it's gigantic
00:21:04Here the supposed Bigfoot was a little old coyote
00:21:16The Redwoods an endless source of sightings
00:21:26If this creature were here, where did it hide I
00:21:31I searched in the caves formed by the roots of the ancient trees
00:21:45Here were perfect shelters large dark
00:21:51Secluded hideaway to recover from injuries
00:21:56A refuge for many forest animals from the elephants
00:22:04Protected privacy and giving birth
00:22:11Hundreds of tree caves, but no tracks bones or unusual droppings
00:22:20No clues at all I had to be wasting my time
00:22:26But there was a statue
00:22:29Carved in Redwood
00:22:31Its image was based on hundreds of sightings collected over the years
00:22:37It was exactly like the creature. I had seen myself
00:22:56Oh
00:23:03Oregon Coast reports of Bigfoot feeding during the run of the night fish
00:23:12The shore was secluded
00:23:15Food was plentiful. It seemed a perfect place for the secretive Bigfoot
00:23:22So I waited you don't know what it is to wait till you've been a tracker
00:23:33Finally a
00:23:35Goal came with the first sign of the run
00:23:39And right behind it
00:23:42You've never seen so many fishermen
00:23:45My
00:23:50Secluded beach turned into Coney Island only way Bigfoot could show up here was wearing swimming trunks
00:24:01One bum steer after another
00:24:06How was I supposed to know which lead to follow
00:24:10Running out of time and I was running out of money
00:24:16As we left I felt like the waves
00:24:20laughing at our back
00:24:28Then came our hottest tip yet, we couldn't turn it down
00:24:33Snowbird warned us of an upcoming storm, but I was too excited and ignored
00:24:39The area was rich with wildlife and why not Bigfoot?
00:24:45plenty of food
00:24:46plenty of cover
00:24:48this
00:24:50remote from man
00:24:55There it was
00:24:58My efforts had paid off and this time I was ready for it. I
00:25:07Wasn't ready to find out it was just a bear staying up past its winter bedtime
00:25:16What was happening to me
00:25:20Any Boy Scout knows how people's eyes play tricks on them in the woods. I
00:25:26Was like a gun happy hunter that makes a 10-foot grizz out of a charred old tree stump
00:25:36Even the snowbird was laughing
00:25:40And why should
00:25:43I
00:25:44Here I was a grown man running around the woods chasing some fairy tales. I felt like a fool
00:25:56Well, I was out of patience and I was out of money so I took a job up in the wilderness around Bossburg, Washington
00:26:05Had to photograph a cinnamon bear in its natural habitat you want a bear here's a bear
00:26:13a piece of cake
00:26:15Always got what I said after
00:26:18except Bigfoot
00:26:22Then I saw it a deformed version of the track I'd seen so often
00:26:36There it was
00:26:39Final face-to-face with Bigfoot
00:26:49Here was the domed head just as others had described it
00:26:54The thick dark fur to protect it from extremes of weather and allow it to pass unnoticed in the night. I
00:27:03Saw it photographed
00:27:06But scientists challenged my film
00:27:12It had stood up under every conceivable test
00:27:17Some reveal rugged terrain as the cause of the skin heels polio as the cause of the limp
00:27:24But my documented evidence wasn't good enough for the experts
00:27:29Experts
00:27:33Who still asked how could such a creature survive where does it live show us its remains? What is it eat?
00:27:42Experts who challenged my word, but claimed credit for my film and profited by it on lecture circuits
00:27:52Well, I didn't care for these people
00:27:59But I was haunted by their questions
00:28:06What an experience
00:28:11Now I had to start finding some answers
00:28:16The creatures tracks disappeared at the edge of a beaver swamp
00:28:21Only sign of animal life was the geese migrating north for the summer. I
00:28:30Wanted the satisfaction of bringing back
00:28:34unchallengeable proof
00:28:36Still where to begin?
00:28:40I found several other creatures had passed through the area all heading north
00:28:46All heading north
00:28:50Could Bigfoot be a migratory animal
00:28:57I plotted all the reliable reports
00:29:16They're
00:29:19Actually seen to be a migratory pattern extended over thousands of miles
00:29:27This were true I'd have some means of predicting the creatures
00:29:33Moments and a good chance to find some answers to my questions
00:29:40Bigfoot always stayed in very rocky mountains and isolated terrain
00:29:47the
00:29:48Greatest number of sightings and the only ones of the Bigfoot young were in summer
00:29:54above the Arctic Circle
00:29:57Could that be where Bigfoot migrated to breed?
00:30:00If I move rapidly, I might find a clue before seasons end
00:30:16You
00:30:32Peg and I took our camera and plan to document every step we took
00:30:38The lava beds Mota, California
00:30:42The Bigfoot were a migratory animal my theory had to hold up all along the way
00:30:49Track centuries old preserved in the lava
00:30:53my theory was working I
00:30:56Wondered how Bigfoot survived the violent eruptions that brought the lava rock
00:31:06As usual nature provided me clues I
00:31:10Saw these two little ground squirrels so much in love. They took no notice of me or the dangers around
00:31:40Oh
00:32:10You
00:32:40You
00:33:10You
00:33:16You
00:33:28You
00:33:40You
00:33:56The males natural instincts drove him to cover
00:34:04These same instincts started up in the wounded squirrel
00:34:10You
00:34:17Nature was reminding me of her basic law survival
00:34:41This same will to survive must have somehow kept Bigfoot going throughout all these years
00:34:52But where did the creature go if it were injured the caves Mount Lassen
00:35:04The Hat Creek Indians believed they were inhabited by an evil ape man
00:35:11Now I was hot every step along the way brought me new clues
00:35:19Too late in the season to find the creature here now
00:35:24But I'd soon catch up with above the Arctic Circle
00:35:40I
00:36:10I
00:36:23And I found the people up north different they encouraged took my search serious
00:36:31Like the lumberjacks mountain men like myself
00:36:37The first into the midst of the wilderness which meant first with stories of big
00:36:46Most of their sightings came at the time of year I'd anticipated
00:36:51They were sure when Bigfoot passed because strange happenings followed in the nearby Valley
00:37:01Herds of goats come and perform a ritual
00:37:06suicide
00:37:08Sure enough the goats were there looking as if they were grazing normally, but actually eating
00:37:16pounds of dirt
00:37:19With one gulp of water
00:37:21The earth turns to cement and they die
00:37:26Lying in the shadow of Bigfoot
00:37:30etched in rock
00:37:3226 feet high and the wolf
00:37:36is only known traveling companion
00:37:39But went on in this valley Bigfoot passed through went against all the natural laws of survival
00:37:47and the rock formations
00:37:49Too massive to have been shaped by man
00:37:52presented another
00:37:54totally unexplainable
00:37:57Natural phenomena
00:37:59To
00:38:03Those who cried for Bigfoot to exist goes against every bit of scientific data known to man I
00:38:11Could now say how much more there is to know?
00:38:19I'd oh close to the adventurers who'd left their calling cards at Watson Lake as they crossed into the Yukon and
00:38:27Even closer to those who'd made a similar journey at the turn of the century who set out after something
00:38:33They didn't know where to find but knew was out there someplace
00:38:38With so many pouring into the Yukon during the gold rush
00:38:43It's no surprise there'd be such a rich source of stories about Bigfoot
00:38:58For
00:39:00The first time in my life I understood what made people like that tick
00:39:07It's more than gold. I guess we all need a frontier to explore
00:39:13Don't necessarily have to go off into it. Just makes you feel kind of good knowing it's there
00:39:22Thousands of these people came from everywhere
00:39:28In
00:39:33Tent cities sprung up where no man had ever even walked
00:39:38If Bigfoot came here to keep clear of man, it's occlusion didn't last for long
00:39:45Such a rich source of information had to bring new leads
00:39:50Sure enough an old miner's story told how the glaciers up there were the burial grounds of the Bigfoot
00:39:58That would explain why there were no remains
00:40:02The creatures carried their dead over thousands of miles
00:40:06Just to deposit them in crevices that open up in the spring
00:40:12Can you imagine?
00:40:20I
00:40:30Went there searching for some remains I
00:40:33Did find tracks so I had to be close. I
00:40:37Found bones that told many different stories
00:40:42But none of Bigfoot
00:40:44The
00:40:48Constant movement of the glaciers could either crush the means or wash them to the sea
00:41:07Burial grounds of the Bigfoot I
00:41:10I
00:41:11Thought of the people who were the source of these stories
00:41:16their friends called them crazy and
00:41:19Some of them might have been but you wouldn't believe the extremes they went to
00:41:25for their fortunes
00:41:27romance and
00:41:29the unexplored
00:41:39I
00:41:49Guess it wasn't so tough to believe
00:41:51Bigfoot could have gone to similar extremes
00:41:55for a far more
00:41:57instinctive
00:41:58basic drive
00:42:00As burying is dead
00:42:10So many questions
00:42:16Well, I sure understood what drove those miners as they sailed up the river in pursuit of gold
00:42:24For I'd soon ride the same river in pursuit of Bigfoot
00:42:33The miners were gone now, but I knew Bigfoot had to still be around
00:42:40The frequency of current sightings meant he'd somehow
00:42:46Survived the diseases the white man brought into the wilds
00:42:51the tuberculosis
00:42:53measles
00:42:56That wiped out whole tribes of Indians and Eskimos
00:43:09He'd
00:43:16Even survived the violence reaching out from the boom towns
00:43:25Now I understood why Bigfoot steered clear of man
00:43:30He had to in order to survive
00:43:34However
00:43:39Vicious the creature might be I
00:43:42Gained a lot of respect for the elusive Bigfoot and its ability to endure
00:43:49But if we were to find we'd have to get to the furthest outpost of civilization
00:43:55When
00:44:00We ran out of road
00:44:02We saw the remnants of the old pioneers giving way to the machinery of the new
00:44:10Thousands were now pouring back up to the new gold rush for the black gold oil
00:44:18How much longer could Bigfoot avoid all these people where would he go next
00:44:26I gambled on him heading north
00:44:39Well traveling had been tough so we treated ourselves to the fanciest hotel in town
00:44:46There Yukon Frida
00:44:48Her sketches were based on recent sightings and descriptions of Bigfoot from that very area
00:45:06As we started our journey of the river I thought of the statues and drawings I'd seen in Arizona
00:45:14California Oregon
00:45:16Washington British Columbia the Yukon and now above the Arctic Circle
00:45:21All of them resembling the very creature. I saw myself
00:45:26They were too similar over too vast an area to be coincidental
00:45:32But these images weren't good enough for the experts below. I
00:45:37Still had a lot of questions to answer
00:45:39There
00:45:41Were no grocery stores up here
00:45:44So we ate off the land or purchased fish from the Eskimos. I
00:45:49Knew I could get my answers from these people
00:45:53Cuz stories of Bigfoot were as plentiful as the food
00:46:00One man told of the strange day his mother died
00:46:05In a cabin like this family and friends gathered to await the passing of her spirit
00:46:12At night they heard a soft scratch at the door there was Bigfoot chanting in a strange tongue
00:46:21Everyone was terrified
00:46:24Spirit of his mother who was speaking through the voice of Bigfoot
00:46:29They must abandon their homes
00:46:32Which they did
00:46:34the next day an ice flow changed the river and
00:46:39Waters now flow where the village once stood
00:46:44I asked to see this area hoping for a sign of Bigfoot
00:46:48The man said if you wish to see the king of the animals
00:46:53He breeds in the mating grounds of the Alaskan moose
00:47:04The moose came as if a sign reaffirming the man's words
00:47:24Up the river by a salmon wheel a lone Eskimo greeted us with the words Bigfoot is not here
00:47:31How
00:47:33Did he know what we were after
00:47:36He told a tale about a trapper who killed a creature in the early 40s
00:47:42Bringing the wrath of Bigfoot down upon his people
00:47:53He said one night I was caught out on the trail with only a few minutes of twilight left
00:48:01The lights began to shine in the sky
00:48:04They were bright
00:48:06Traveling was good
00:48:08Then the snow turned red
00:48:14The north south east and west
00:48:18Rivers of blood flowed across the sky and down into the snows
00:48:23It seemed to be the last day of the world
00:48:26Bigfoot was punishing us for bringing its sorrow
00:48:34But then the good white light rose from the north what followed was a battle of a thousand warriors
00:48:44The white light was the spirit of Bigfoot left to die by the trapper
00:48:50It returned in the form of a white raven to protect us from the red wrath of its grieving brothers
00:48:59If you travel the river you may see him and if you do he will bring you luck
00:49:21Oh
00:49:39Then the native gasped
00:49:41pointing to a bird soaring above us the
00:49:45legendary white raven the fishermen said
00:49:49Bigfoot smiles upon you. You will bring word of him to the people below
00:50:10Mine was reeling
00:50:13At the next village the natives were waiting for us
00:50:18He had heard about the white raven and wanted to show us their secret sacred figure
00:50:26Here it was again
00:50:30He told us how Bigfoot was their friend their friend
00:50:35How did they think such a violent creature could be their friend?
00:50:39They told how Bigfoot always carried the bodies of men killed lost in the Arctic winter to the edge of the nearest village
00:50:49To be buried by their own kind
00:50:53When I asked where I could make contact with their friend
00:50:57They said in the land of shining eyes
00:51:01But they warned me not to violate Bigfoot's domain
00:51:06Not to violate Bigfoot's domain
00:51:10I reminded them of the white raven
00:51:14So they taught me a chant to sing on the night of the full moon
00:51:19And promised I would see the glowing eyes of Bigfoot
00:51:37Well, I wasn't going to have a thing to do with any chanting
00:51:42So I set up walkie-talkies 300 yards from the tent to monitor any movements on the tundra during the night
00:51:50At the first sound I'd have a jump on the creature
00:51:53Then the wait
00:51:58The land was lush with vegetation
00:52:02A perfect feeding ground
00:52:06Berries, lichen, gnats, bugs, millions of fish
00:52:11A perfect place to hide
00:52:14And a perfect place to sleep
00:52:18Berries, lichen, gnats, bugs, millions of fish
00:52:24Not just a land of ice and snow
00:52:29I understood why Bigfoot and so many animals flocked to the Arctic to breed
00:52:36Raise their young
00:52:42But this land was strangely silent
00:52:48Where were the animals?
00:53:07My transmitter had been thrown 15 feet
00:53:13And the tundra held no tracks
00:53:18Days passed
00:53:20I felt like a fool
00:53:22But now I'd go to any ends to conjure up the creature
00:53:39Soon Peg saw what she thought were two car lights approaching
00:53:48I was caught in the darkness, but Peg guided me toward the lights
00:53:53I had to find out what it was
00:54:00Then we realized
00:54:02They were the shiny eyes
00:54:09This time I couldn't let Bigfoot escape
00:54:13This time I couldn't let Bigfoot escape
00:54:43But dawn broke, and it disappeared behind a rainbow
00:55:14This was too much
00:55:18I felt like I was coming apart at the seams
00:55:24Here I was, an experienced mountain man all my life, acting like a spooked tenderfoot
00:55:32I still had a thousand questions
00:55:36And so few answers
00:55:39I couldn't concentrate
00:55:43My head was spinning with tall tales and folklore
00:55:48I no longer knew what to believe
00:55:52I had to get away from the others
00:55:55And be by myself
00:56:09There were the salmon, back after ten years of living in the sea
00:56:16To spawn in the exact place of their birth
00:56:20And then to die
00:56:24They reminded me of those I'd seen at Kodiak
00:56:27In the days when I was a pure tracker
00:56:30Stuck to nature's signs and
00:56:33And there were geese
00:56:35My first clue to Bigfoot's migratory pattern
00:56:44I had to be careful
00:56:47I had to be careful
00:56:50I had to be careful
00:56:53I had to be careful
00:56:56I had to be careful
00:56:59I had to be careful
00:57:05I began to feel close to nature again
00:57:10I knew that's where I'd find the answers to my questions
00:57:17And the caribou, catching velvet off their antlers
00:57:20Released swamp gas from the tundra to glow in the night
00:57:30Then I saw what must have been the monarch of the north
00:57:38I was terrified
00:57:39It could crush the likes of me with one swoop
00:57:43But it was the most magnificent animal I think I've ever seen
00:57:52He didn't seem to notice me as he made a clearing
00:57:56He sharpened his horns as if to prepare for combat
00:58:00I thought he'd come for me now
00:58:03Instead, he dug a pit
00:58:07And marked it with his scent
00:58:15This attracted cows from all over the area
00:58:20And seemed to warn other bulls to keep away
00:58:26The cows declared themselves his
00:58:33By covering themselves with his scent
00:58:37I'd made it
00:58:39The mating grounds of the Alaskan moose
00:58:42Where no man had ever been before
00:58:45And possibly the breeding grounds of Bigfoot
00:58:51Some young wolves seemed a little over eager
00:58:55And found the monarch defending his territory against all intruders
00:59:01While others waited for the right moment to move in
00:59:11Then he saw me
00:59:14But luckily, a match for the monarch challenged him for his cows and territory
00:59:45Those who'd waited now moved in
00:59:52While the bulls were fighting
00:59:55Nature made sure there'd be a good crop of calves come spring
01:00:09Finally, the monarch triumphed
01:00:14Now, too preoccupied to give any notice to me
01:00:17He gathered his cows
01:00:21And, according to the law of nature
01:00:26The strongest began to breed
01:00:32I was deeply moved by what I'd seen
01:00:35But still, no sign of Bigfoot
01:00:39The salmon lay dying in the streams
01:00:42Signaling the end of the breeding season
01:00:45Time was running out, so we took to the air
01:00:55The Arctic winter could close us in at any moment
01:00:58So we had to move fast
01:01:04Why couldn't I find this creature?
01:01:07Was my theory wrong?
01:01:11When I saw the expanse of space below, I laughed
01:01:15Anything could be out there
01:01:18They'd found Stone Age men in New Zealand
01:01:21There were prehistoric fish being pulled out of the Persian Sea
01:01:24My God, a primitive man walked out of the mountains 70 miles from the capital of California
01:01:31There's so much territory yet to be explored
01:01:37We found undiscovered wrecks of men who tried to break into this wilderness
01:01:42And were never heard of again
01:01:46I couldn't think of the risks
01:01:49Everything I believed in was on the line
01:01:58Suddenly, the pilot went around
01:02:02There he was, a young Bigfoot, frozen like a tree
01:02:15We raced back to the river, but he slipped away
01:02:20Seeing the young Bigfoot confirmed my theory
01:02:24I could now roughly predict the creature's movements
01:02:32The crew celebrated the sighting, but it wasn't enough for me
01:02:37I knew I needed to document Bigfoot's habits
01:02:44The young Bigfoot's tracks led me from the river to a lush meadow
01:02:51He'd passed through a herd of grazing muskox
01:02:56I wondered what Bigfoot fed on
01:02:59Maybe he ate vegetation, too
01:03:02Or fish
01:03:04I'd seen him by a river
01:03:06Of course, he could have been cleaning himself
01:03:09Or drinking
01:03:11Of course, he could be a predator
01:03:13One of these oxen would last him half the winter
01:03:17Bigfoot's behavior still held many mysteries
01:03:22But now it was just a matter of time before I solved them
01:03:29Yeah, I'm really sorry
01:03:35Winter now closed down on us in earnest
01:03:40We were forced to move south, just like the animals
01:03:49The caribou gathered for their migration
01:04:00They'd be the source of food for all the meat-eating animals that followed
01:04:11If Bigfoot were a meat-eater, he'd feed on caribou, too
01:04:16If I could prove that he did, I'd have a clue to the place he held in nature
01:04:24If I could film it, I'd have the kind of documentation the experts demanded
01:04:32Whatever as happens, I knew the road would be paved with danger
01:05:53I was devastated
01:05:58I was devastated
01:06:03I was devastated
01:06:08I was devastated
01:06:13I was devastated
01:06:19I was devastated by the slaughter of the caribou
01:06:25I kept thinking of Bigfoot and its migration
01:06:29It had to be protected
01:06:31It could be wiped out before I had a chance to study it
01:06:38But how could I get protection for something so few believed existed?
01:06:45I needed that unchallengeable proof I'd first set out for
01:06:52There was no sign of Bigfoot with the caribou
01:06:57It must eat vegetation or fish
01:07:02The perfect place, beaver swamp in the spring
01:07:08I got there early and planned to stay as long as I could
01:07:15I used every trick I learned over my years as a trapper
01:07:20and carefully covered my scent with ammonia
01:07:27Beaver swamp
01:07:30The geese
01:07:32Swamp
01:07:34The geese
01:07:36If my theory was right, Bigfoot would follow shortly
01:07:42I searched for the perfect place to set up a blind
01:07:50When I found it, I moved in and set up my cameras
01:07:57Day after day I waited
01:08:01and soon grew jealous of the other animals' freedom
01:08:05I was stiff, chilled to the bone
01:08:09but I was determined not to make a move that might warn Bigfoot of my presence
01:08:22What if he didn't come?
01:08:27Beaver swamp
01:08:32Then the movement in the woods
01:08:36The sun hadn't come up yet
01:08:38It was hard to make out what I'd seen at first
01:08:56There he was, Bigfoot
01:09:00standing no more than a hundred yards from my blind
01:09:05I began to shake all over
01:09:08I could barely keep hold of my camera
01:09:11He was awesome
01:09:15Beaver swamp
01:09:24Then behind me, another one
01:09:28Smaller, possibly younger
01:09:31How many of them were there?
01:09:34Was I surrounded?
01:09:38They were the most extraordinary creatures I'd ever seen
01:09:44I now knew why the Eskimos called Bigfoot
01:09:48the king of the animals
01:09:51The older, larger one was seven feet tall
01:09:55450 to 500 pounds
01:09:58His domed head and long dark hair
01:10:01just like the other creatures I'd seen
01:10:04His odor was overwhelming
01:10:07the same thick musky scent that first led me to Bigfoot so long ago
01:10:15The young one was no more than five and a half feet tall
01:10:19250 pounds
01:10:21If my guess was right
01:10:23probably on its first trip away from its northern breeding grounds
01:10:28he'd probably never seen a man before
01:10:31If he saw me, he could panic and attack
01:10:38Then I looked around
01:10:40and realized the other animals were carrying on normally
01:10:45If danger was around
01:10:48they would have fled
01:10:55Just as the Eskimos had said
01:10:59Bigfoot is a benevolent creature
01:11:05It doesn't even attack or feed on other animals
01:11:10It seems to eat only vegetation
01:11:13sometimes fish
01:11:16Here it was before me
01:11:18pulling up the tender swamp grass with its hands
01:11:24Remarkable huge hands
01:11:27that seem capable of grasping, scooping up drinking water
01:11:32splashing to rid itself of parasites
01:11:39I'd done it
01:11:41Here I was again with Bigfoot
01:11:45Unchallengeable proof my theory had worked
01:11:49It is a migratory animal
01:11:52I now have the documentation of its habits I needed
01:11:58Now we can begin to understand the place this creature holds in nature
01:12:23A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:12:27I knew the nocturnal Bigfoot would soon return to the cover of the forest
01:12:53A few days later
01:12:57A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:02I knew the nocturnal Bigfoot would soon return to the cover of the forest
01:13:07A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:12I knew the nocturnal Bigfoot would soon return to the cover of the forest
01:13:17A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:22I knew the nocturnal Bigfoot would soon return to the cover of the forest
01:13:27A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:32I knew the nocturnal Bigfoot would soon return to the cover of the forest
01:13:37A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:42A raccoon came out to start his day's hunting
01:13:47I once again said goodbye to this mysterious creature
01:13:52That has somehow outlived its natural role
01:13:57Endured the tests of time
01:14:01Now left to wander the land elusively
01:14:06With a strange will to survive
01:14:12The End
01:14:19Oh, I still have plenty of questions
01:14:22And I'll continue my search for the answers now
01:14:26But I assure you
01:14:28I'll no longer get so caught up in the problems of my research
01:14:34And I'll lose touch with the wonders it reveals
01:14:42The End
