00:00You know something, people? You're going to be remembered the rest of your lives for the day you got held up and kidnapped.
00:06At approximately 3 p.m. on August 22, 1972, Sonny Wurtzik and Sal Naturali entered the First Brooklyn Savings Bank and attempted a robbery.
00:18Hey, freeze! Nobody move! Get over there!
00:22The attempt failed.
00:24There's no money here.
00:25They picked it up this afternoon. There's only $1,100.
00:28This is too much.
00:30It's for you.
00:31What?
00:32The police arrived.
00:33This is Detective Sergeant Eugene Moretti. What are you doing in there?
00:40For the people of the neighborhood, it was a sideshow.
00:43Sonny! Sonny!
00:45But for Sonny and Sal, the hostages and the cops, it was a dog day afternoon.
00:51It's all a whim. Rob a bank.
00:53I had a plan. I had a plan!
00:55WNEW. Place all the hits.
00:57When you keep away from this banker, we're going to start throwing bodies out the front door one at a time.
01:01I'm a Catholic, and I don't want to hurt anybody, understand?
01:04How about letting the people out of the bank?
01:06I dare keep me alive. I'm going to let him out.
01:08Sir, can you tell me what the situation is?
01:10Who has to go to the bathroom?
01:12Sonny, come on out!
01:15It's just a freak show to them anyway.
01:17The most you're going to get is five years. You get out in one year, huh?
01:19Kiss me.
01:20I mean, I don't know about that guy out there.
01:22Hello, Sonny? You're on the air.
01:24Sonny, Jesus, I was watching it on TV.
01:26Go on back there, man!
01:28Why didn't he tell me he needed money?
01:31He wants to kill me so bad he can taste it.
01:33Why rob a bank when you got a sucker for a mother?
01:35You're starting to get on my nerves.
01:37See that? Put it in your holster.
01:39We're entertainment, right? What do you got for us?
01:42Hanukkah! Hanukkah!
01:45I ain't going back to that prison, Sonny.
01:47Remember, Hanukkah!
01:49Stay out! They're coming in the back!
01:51They're coming in the back!
01:52I'm here with my partner and nine other people, see? We're dying.
01:55Don't! Don't!
01:57You're going to see our brains on a sidewalk.
01:59They're going to spill our guts out.
02:02Shouldn't let something like that spoil your fun.
