Seven injured in Nyack College gas explosion

A violent explosion on the campus of Nyack College, north of New York City, left seven people injured on Tuesday. Authorities suspect the explosion at the historic Sky Island Lodge was caused by a natural gas leak. The campus was relatively empty, but two students, one of whom was taking a make-up test, and five staff members were reported injured.

The explosion happened around noon, blowing out windows and sending glass and shrapnel sailing. The blast reportedly sent one student out a second-story window. A fire alarm inside the building triggered the first emergency response. The first people to arrive on the scene described smelling gas fumes and seeing a haze of dust.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening, according to a Reuters report.
