The Double Inverted Funnel for Intervention on Shipwrecks (DIFIS) is an EU project that uses a passive system to capture oil as it escapes a wreck on the ocean floor. The DIFIS system uses two inverted funnels to pump the spilt oil from a wrecked ship directly underwater. The first funnel is placed around the area of the shipwreck and is weighted down by several cement blocks.
