At least 24 Egyptian policemen have been killed in an ambush in the Sinai peninsula on Monday.

BBC reported the medical sources and officials said that the police were in two minibuses that came under attack from armed militants near the town of Rafah on the Gaza border.

Three policemen were also reported to have been injured in the ambush.

Security sources said four armed men stopped the minibuses and forced the passengers to get off. The police were then told to lie down before they were shot execution-style. Officials said the police were off-duty and were in civilian clothes.

According to Reuters, at least 850 people, including 70 soldiers and police, have been killed in the past week in a crackdown on Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood.
