A pregnant woman and two others, including an 11-year-old were killed when their SUV overturned on a road in Jefferson County, New Jersey.
Luis Torres, 37, was driving a vehicle with eight other passengers, mostly family, home after a family gathering. According to police, Torres had been drinking for most of the day and accidentally overturned the car while aggressively attempting to overtake another vehicle.
The car steered off-road leaping over a bumpy patch, a concrete wall and slammed into a house. Authorities pronounced the three victims and fetus dead on the scene and are now holding Torres on a $750,000 cash bail on three counts of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide, as well as five counts of assault.
"They were wonderful people," Elizabeth Echevarria, sister of the deceased 36-year-old Julissa Colon, told local media. "It's just a tragedy, losing four members in the family at the same time. I can't believe it. We are all in shock. Everybody is numb."
It was later discovered that the car was not equipped with seatbelts.
