At least one person has died after a light aircraft crashed at an airport in central Alaska on Thursday, October 17.

Initial reports say the Cessna 150 single engine plane had just taken off from Fairbanks International Airport with three people on board.

For reasons still unclear, the aircraft lost altitude and plunged into a ditch about 100 yards from the southern end of taxiway C about 5.30 p.m. Its front section was completely destroyed.

All three people were rushed to Fairbanks memorial Hospital, where one later died, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.

The names, ages and genders of those on board had not been made public at the time of publication.
