Dominican Republic Plane Crash: Seven dead after light aircraft crashes onto golf course
  • 9 years ago
Two British nationals were said to be among seven people who died when a plane crashed shortly after take-off in the Punta Cana region of the Dominican Republic early Monday.

The single-engine Piper PA-32 had taken off from Punta Cana en route to the Samana Peninsula at around 8 a.m. on Monday. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot apparently attempted to make an emergency landing on a golf course, but the plane crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

The pilot and all six passengers on board were killed.

Early reports indicated the pilot was a Dominican Republic national while the passengers were tourists, two of them Britons while the other four were from Spain.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
