A felon wanted for being a felon in possession of a firearm was shot by police inside of a children's hospital in the Wauwatosa suburb of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin on Thursday (November 14). Police were tipped off that 22-year-old Ashanti Hendricks was at the hospital at 11:11 a.m., and found him in the 7th floor neonatal unit holding a child when they arrived.

After presenting him with a warrant, Hendricks put the baby down and tried to flee down the hallway. However, he quickly turned toward the police, flashing a handgun, which was when one of the officers opened fire twice, according to Police Chief Edward Flynn. Hendricks did not return fire. The officer who opened fire was a 27-year-old Milwaukee police officer who had been on the force for nine years, Flynn added.

Hendricks continued to try to run even after being struck in the wrist, and officers took him to the ground, struggling for several minutes before handcuffing him.

Reports say Hendricks was armed with a .40 caliber Glock. No one else was reported injured in the incident.
