Woman jumps off bridge into icy water to evade Oregon police (VIDEO)

A woman driving a stolen car in Troutdale, Oregon jumped into a freezing river to avoid capture by police but was apprehended after she swam to shore quickly after realizing the water was really, really cold — roughly 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius).
Rebecca Humphries, 26, has a long history of run-ins with the law. After cops tried to pull her over for a minor traffic infraction, she led cops on a high-speed chase that ended at Stark Street Bridge. In a dashboard cam police video released on the internet, Humphries is seen jumping out of the moving vehicle she was driving and running over to the railing of the bridge.
She then lept into the river, despite pleas by the police for her not to do so, and fell some 40 feet into the chilly Sandy River below. Cops say she was in the water for roughly one minute before quickly swimming to the river bank where waiting cops arrested her and transported her to the hospital. She reportedly did not suffer any major injuries.
According to a report in the New York Daily News, Humphries told local reporters: "I looked down, but I didn't hesitate. I just jumped. It didn't look as far when I looked down, as it did when I looked up." She blamed her "fight or flight" response for her actions, saying she was scared to be arrested again and wasn't thinking straight.
Humphries argued that she was on her way to return the car to its lawful owner when cops tried to pull her over. Police, however, say they have had had multiple encounters with Humphries, who has a long rap sheet that includes drug possession and theft.
