Chairman of Japan Mothers Society arrested for domestic assault

Shinzi Morimatsu, chairman of the Japan Mothers Society, was arrested on Monday on charges of domestic assault. Morimatsu is alleged to have punched and kicked his wife in the face and stomach at their apartment in Matsuyama Ehime.

The domestic violence left his wife seriously injured, with broken ribs and a bruised head and chest. It took a month for her to recover.

Morimatsu denied the charges during questioning, claiming that he had a quarrel over his wife, but had no memory of the assault. The Best Mother Awards have been held annually since 2008. The awards are given to celebrities for outstanding achievement in parental care.
