Chinese New Year fireworks accident: father kills son when sparks detonate septic tank

It's common to see kids playing with firecrackers during the Chinese New Year holiday. But this festive tradition led to a tragedy in Liaoning, China.
On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, a father was playing with fireworks with his 4-year-old twins. Sparks from the fireworks detonated the methane gas on top of a nearby septic tank.
The explosion blew the lid of the tank open, causing one of the kids to fall in. The father had fainted due to the explosion, so the boy's grandmother tried to pull him out of the 1-meter deep well, but couldn't.
Neighbors eventually managed to help get the kid out and gave him CPR, but the child later died from a severe intracerebral hemorrhage in the hospital.
Neighbors said they always smelled methane in the area, and because of this they had cleaned the tank just before the Chinese New Year.
