The European green woodpecker resides mostly in central Europe but can be spotted on the British Isles too. This particular woodpecker had just been brought in to the hospital in a very weak condition, and desperately needed to take the food mealworms on offer. This allowed the rescuers a sight of the Green woodpecker’s massively long tongue, which wraps around the bird’s brain when not in use. Credit: YouTube/HART Wildlife Rescue
