Bus crash: 48 dead, 15 injured in head-on collision with truck in Togo

A head-on collision that took place 108 miles (175 kilometres) north of Lome in Togo killed at least 48 people and severely injured 15, according to a statement jointly issued by the country's ministers of security and transport.
The statement, which was read on national television, said that the driver of the 56-passenger bus collided head-on with the heavy truck after the driver mistook the truck for a motorbike because the vehicle had only only one headlight, according to survivors of the crash.
A minibus was also involved in the crash.
Among those killed were 15 people from Burkina Faso and a Nigerian, according to the government statement.
