U.S. President Barack Obama embarked on a weeklong trip to Asia on Wednesday, as America steps up its military presence in the region to counterbalance the ever-increasing influence of China.

Aiming to "rebalance" America's relationship with Asia, Obama will visit key Asian allies, including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines in this week.

Prior to Obama's visit, the United States confirmed plans to forward-deploy two AEGIS ballistic missile defense destroyers to Japan to protect the country from missile attacks from North Korea, Politico reported.

The U.S. Marine Corps is already rotating more troops through Guam, which should facilitate deployment if an event occurs in Asia.

The United States is close to sealing a pact on new troop deployments with the Philippines. It has already established a standing training deployment to Australia.

The deployment of USS Freedom to Singapore ended in last December, and the United States is planning a regular rotation of littoral combat ships to the city-state.

South Korea, Japan and Australia plan to buy the F-35 Lightning II fighter, which will create a greater synergy between the air forces of these countries and the United States.

Originally scheduled for October, the trip was postponed due to a series of crises in countries like Sudan and Ukraine.
