An Arizona woman thought she was gaining weight, but doctors found a massive tumor responsible for her bulging belly, doctors at the hospital announced this week.

A similar case occurred this week in Georgia, where a 59-year-old woman underwent a complicated eight-hour surgery to remove a tumor the size of a giant beach ball.

Both women tried repeatedly to get treatment, but were denied care due to lack of health insurance.

Doris Lewis of Atlanta was turned away from four hospitals that refused to remove her 27-pound mass. It wasn't until the pain became unbearable that Lewis called 911 and was treated at Emory University Midtown hospital, where doctors removed the giant growth.
The procedure wasn't without complications. The beach ball-sized tumor, which had was attached to several of her organs and the wall of her stomach. The tumor ruptured during surgery releasing nearly 13 liters of fluid doctors said.

In the case of Marcey DiCaro of Tuscon, Arizona it took three years for her to receive treatment for her 47-pound growth.

DiCaro first learned of the tumor in 2012, but was rejected from multiple insurance companies.
It wasn't until earlier this year when she received Obamacare that DiCaro was able to receive the much needed operation, but the tumor had grown and the surgery became much more complicated.

The tumor, a massive lipo sarcoma, had invaded DiCaro's inferior vena cava -- the body's largest vein, which carries blood from the body back to the heart. DiCaro went into cardiac arrest during surgery and doctors were forced to remove her right kidney and gallbladder due to damage from the giant mass.

According to reports, both women are on the road to recovery.
