A 12-year-old boy in Humble, Texas was hit in the eye with a bullet on Sunday (June 15) afer lighting it on fire.
The Liberty County Sheriff's Department dispatcher received a 911 call at approximately 4:06 p.m. about the accident from Rachel Mendoza, who said her son had just been injured by a .22 caliber bullet that struck him in his eye.
Deputy James Hobson responded toward the scene but found Mendoza and her son on Highway 90 in Dayton. Mendoza had decided to drive the boy to a local hospital by herself.
Hobson said that when he spoke to the boy, he said that he held a cigarette lighter under the bullet to see what would happen. The bullet exploded, sending fragments through his left middle finger and lodging in his left eye lid.
The boy's injuries were was non-life threatening, and officials are continuing to investigate.
