A Mexican military helicopter crossed into Arizona and fired two shots at U.S. border agents on Thursday (June 26), according to U.S. authorities.
A statement from the U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector union president published by KVOA.com stated that the incident occured after midnight and before 6 a.m. A Mexican law enforcement helicopter crossed approximately 100 yards north into Arizona on the Tohono O'odham Indian Nation. Two shots were fired from the helicopter but no injuries or damage to US property were reported.
The president of the local border patrol union, Art del Cueto said four agents were in a marked patrol vehicle when they were shot at, according to the Huffington Post.
Senior director of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Mexican Attorney General's Office, Tomas Zeron de Lucio denied that a Mexican helicopter had crossed the border into Arizona and fired shots near U.S. agents in a statement on Friday. The statement said the helicopter was taking part in a raid on a ranch near the border used by a criminal organization, 11alive.com reported.
